Special Exhibition 'Gifts from the Imperial Court'

The 'Fukui City Shungaku Memorial Library', which compiles materials related to the 16th lord of Fukui, Matsudaira Shungaku, and his legitimate son, Matsudaira Yoshitami, contains many items received from the imperial family. This is because Shungaku served in the imperial court as a Masukō (Chief Eunuch), and Yoshitami worked for many years in the Imperial Household Agency (formerly the Imperial Household Ministry), allowing the father and son to serve closely to three generations of Emperors during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras. This exhibition presents the arts and crafts bestowed upon Shungaku and Yoshitami by the imperial family.
