Komatabi Fire Festival

A summer tradition of the Ogata plain
The Komatabi fire festival is a traditional event held since ancient times to honor the village headman who fell victim to a peasant revolt during the Edo period and to pray for an abundant harvest as a way to chase away pests. It is an emotional experience as about 10,000 torches light up simultaneously in the Ogata plain, and the flames of the torches sway beautifully, creating a very fantastical atmosphere. Let's enjoy the fantastical Komatabi Fire Festival on a summer night while cooling off in the evening breeze.
