Yabusame Festival

Charge across the shrine grounds and shoot the target from horseback!
An ancient festival with a history of over 800 years. It is said to have originated in 1193 when Minamoto no Yoritomo, after hunting at the foot of Mt. Fuji, led samurai to worship at Sengen Shrine and offered horseback archery. On the main festival day, the 5th, after a procession through the city, a majestic Ogasawara-style horseback archery ceremony is held in the horse racing area on the shrine grounds, where participants are dressed in the hunting attire of Kamakura warriors.
