2023 Summer Special Exhibition 'Work in the Mountains at the Foot of Koyasan'

Koyasan, also known as the head temple of the Shingon sect, Kongōbōji, is a land where it was extremely difficult to self-supply agricultural products and timber. The settlements at the foot of the mountains surrounding Koyasan have supported this mountainous lifestyle. This exhibition will showcase the tools related to the work, life, and prayers of the surrounding settlements that supported the religious city of Koyasan. It is planned to display many tools that are rarely seen in daily life, such as tools for producing memorial tablets, tools for extracting oil from cypress, and equipment for manufacturing frozen tofu.
