Kasagi Lantern Float

350 lanterns flowing on the Kizugawa
In the early Showa period (around 1960), many people lost their lives in past water accidents on the Kizugawa. Considering the feelings of the bereaved families, the Buddhist priests of the town began the lantern float as a ritual to comfort the spirits of the water accident victims. This event has been held every year without fail and was inherited by the town's tourism association as it was established. Now held every year on August 16th as the 'Lantern Float,' it has become a summer tradition of Kasagi Town, attracting participation from local residents and general tourists.
