The entire Takamori Mountain area was a medieval mountain castle called "Iwakiri Castle," where Izawa Shoukan Kageie, who was appointed as the guardian of Mutsu Province by Minamoto no Yoritomo after the fall of the Oshu Fujiwara clan, resided. The ruins of the castle have been developed into Takamori Mountain Park, and from the summit at an elevation of 106m, you can also see the Sendai urban area and far-away Pacific Ocean. In spring, over 460 cherry blossoms, including Somei Yoshino and Higan cherry trees, bloom beautifully in competition.
