The castle was built around 1556 by Ōtomo Sōrin on an island that was once called Nibushima. This seaside castle, surrounded by the sea on all sides, was quite rare in the country. In November 2001, the "Daimon Yagura" was restored. In spring, the cherry blossom festival is held, with plans for illumination, food stalls, stage events, etc.
