"Tatara steelmaking" is a traditional Japanese technique where sand and charcoal are heated in a large furnace made of clay over several days to produce iron. This region was once known for producing high-purity, excellent Japanese iron and steel. This tour offers a rare experience where participants can engage with the history of tatara steelmaking while actually trying their hand at iron production. The tatara experience is an original small tatara experience arranged for tourism purposes by Yoshida Town, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the principles of tatara steelmaking. Prior reservation is required.
