Kashima Shrine Grand Festival and Lantern Parade

Kashima Shrine Grand Festival and Lantern Parade
The Grand Festival is a celebration where the portable shrine of Kashima Shrine departs from the main hall to the temporary palace (Angu). During the festival period, five floats are paraded through the city. The Lantern Parade serves as the light for the procession, where parishioners carry large green bamboo (approximately 8 meters) adorned with countless lanterns, as they chant the festival music and walk along the approach to the shrine. The lanterns that enter the precincts are thrown into the bonfire in front of the Kashima Shrine's main gate, marking the climax of the event.
