Tenri Gallery 184th Exhibition "Masks of the World: A Selection of Exquisite Pieces - A Tool for Transformation and Interworld Exchange"
A tool for transformation and interworld exchange
A selection of exquisite masks from around the world, collected by the Tenri Reference Museum, will be displayed and categorized from the perspective of "how to use masks." There are various masks representing people, gods, animals, and demons, among others. Masks are tools for transformation, allowing the wearer to become something different from themselves, and to engage with the "other world" inhabited by gods and spirits. Masks are deeply related to the culture, traditions, festivals, and rituals of each region. ■Notes Related events: Gallery talks (10/11, 10/28, 12/13)
