Goryokaku, a symbol of the Hakodate Port opening and the Hakodate War, has been open as Goryokaku Park since 1914 (Taisho 3) and is cherished as a place for relaxation for the citizens. The park contains about 1,600 cherry trees, and during the cherry blossom viewing season, many citizens and tourists visit.
