Special Public Viewing of the Dambun Nyoirin Kannon Bodhisattva Statue (Danzan Shrine)

The secret Buddha known as the 'Foot Kannon' is the Nyoirin Kannon statue, which is said to have been brought back from Tang China by the monk Joue, the first son of the deity Fujiwara no Kamataru, who founded Danzan Shrine (formerly Myoraku Temple). It was reconstructed during the late Kamakura period. Therefore, it has been a secret Buddha and is the only Buddhist statue that has remained at the shrine since the Meiji period. Visitors can view the ethereal Nyoirin Kannon statue wrapped in the deep green of early summer.
