Kōfuku-ji Monju-kai

A memorial service dedicated to the Monju Bodhisattva praying for academic success and more.
The origin of the Monju-kai is said to be the enshrinement of the Monju Bodhisattva, aimed at saving and teaching people, as well as praying for the upbringing of orphans. In Japan, it is considered to have started as a social welfare charitable act for the poor. At Kōfuku-ji, children dressed in splendid costumes parade along Sanjo Street, starting from Jochoji Temple in Kamisanjomachi, pulling a cart displaying the calligraphy (excerpted from the Vimalakirti Sutra) offered, heading toward Higashikando. After that, a solemn memorial service is held at Higashikando. For participation in the children's procession, please contact the main temple office.
