Ryuko Kawabata initially studied Western painting but later switched to Japanese painting, presenting vigorous works based on free and bold ideas on the stage of the exhibition. After leaving the exhibition in 1928, he established the Seiryu Society the following year. He is a painter with powerful brushwork and rich colors who pursued 'venue art.' This year marks the 140th anniversary of Ryuko's birth, and we invite you to enjoy the works of artists who were active in the Tokyo painting community, such as Yasuda Yukihiko, Maeda Seison, and Rofū Ochiai who participated in the Seiryu Society, along with Taikan Yokoyama and Gyokudo Kawai who held a triple exhibition with Ryuko.
