The festival at Yaegaki Shrine is held every year on May 2, 3, and 4. It is famous for the three luxurious hikiyama that are featured on this day. It is said that this tradition began in the 2nd year of Bunwa (1353), when Emperor Godaigo sought refuge in Mino Province Tarui, and to comfort him during his difficulties, the villagers created and paraded three flower carts. The current three hikiyama are splendidly decorated with lacquer, maki-e, and sculptures by master craftsmen. Children also perform kabuki, attracting many tourists who look forward to attending.
