Summer Solstice Festival

A festival for purification with the sunrise
The Futamiura area is a place where people purify their minds and bodies and expel sins and impurities in preparation for visiting Ise. On the day of the summer solstice, the sunrise rises from the center of the Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks). The Summer Solstice Festival begins at 3:30 AM, followed by a purification ritual timed with the sunrise (around 4:40 AM).
