Born in Yoshiwara, Tsutaya Juzaburo became an indispensable figure in the narrative of Edo's Ukiyo-e. In this exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of the museum's opening, we trace the history of Ukiyo-e starting with its founder, Hishikawa Moronobu, originally from Boshugo, and continuing through Suzuki Harunobu, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, Katsushika Hokusai, Keisai Eisen, and Utagawa Hiroshige. We will introduce the transition from the era when Tsutaya was born to the brilliant golden age of Ukiyo-e, centered around the museum's exquisite Ukiyo-e collection.
