Hagi Lantern Festival (Welcoming Fire)

A mystical world unfolds at Hagi's summer cultural event
The "Hagi Lantern Festival" which is a summer cultural event in Hagi is held at Daishoin and Tokkoji, the family temple of the Mori clan, the lords of the Hagi domain. The 'Welcoming Fire' on the 13th takes place at Daishoin. At Daishoin, the first lord of Hagi, Mori Hidetsune, along with the even-numbered lords from the 2nd to the 12th generation and their wives are enshrined. To honor the Mori clan's ancestors, about 600 stone lanterns and candles are lit along the path, creating a mystical atmosphere that is worth seeing. A tea serving area is set up at the venue, where you can enjoy tea for 500 yen per serving. There are benefits for those wearing yukata (traditional Japanese clothing). ■ Notes Due to dim lighting, it is recommended to bring a flashlight.
