Tokyo Otsuka Awa Odori

The summer tradition of Otsuka filled with excitement
The Tokyo Otsuka Awa Odori started in 1972, organized by the local shopping district, in an effort to restore the lively atmosphere reminiscent of the pre-war days when Tenso Shrine's festival and visitors to ryotei (Japanese-style restaurants) would fill the area throughout the day. Valuing connections between people and a handmade feel, it is cherished as a vibrant summer tradition in Otsuka with many dancers participating every year. At Tram Pal Otsuka, the 'Kumi Odori' dances in unique formations representing each group, while on Minami Otsuka Street, the 'Nagashi Odori' takes place with cheerful calls as participants march along.
