Otani Wind God Festival

The village festival at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn
The 210th day counting from the beginning of spring. The Wind Festival is a celebration to calm wind disasters like typhoons and pray for a good harvest. The Otani Wind God Festival, held on August 31, is said to have started 260 years ago during the Horeki era. It is the liveliest village festival, where each household sets up lanterns at their entrance and piles sand along the path for the sacred palanquin to pass. Fireworks decorate the night sky, and unique floats created by each district parade through the area.
