Sanjo City 20th Anniversary of Merger - Sanjo Kite Battle

Sanjo City is the birthplace of the world's hexagonal kites
In the Edo period, it is said that the children of the Murakami feudal lord's residence challenged the townspeople's children to fly kites, marking the beginning of the kite battles. Large hexagonal kites, about the size of two and a half tatami mats decorated with vibrant warrior paintings, unfold a scroll in the sky during early summer, and the aerial battles to cut the opponent's kite string are thrilling. On the day of the event, there will also be performances of 'Kite Bayashi' and gifts of small kites, making it a lively gathering spot for many families.
