Sakura - Isihidokaba Zakura

A renowned tree counted among Japan's five great cherries
The Ishidokaba Zakura is said to be 800 years old and is located within the grounds of Tokoji Temple. It is counted among Japan's five great cherries and was designated as a national natural monument in the 11th year of the Taisho era. The name is said to be derived from 'Kabakansha (Kabano kaja) Minamoto no Noriyori,' the younger brother of Minamoto no Yoritomo, who visited this area. Its blooming period is a few days later than that of Somei Yoshino, typically reaching full bloom in early April.
