One of the seven waterfalls in Umegashima: Akamizutaki
It is said that the Akamizutaki waterfall was created when the Abe River was dammed during the Hoei Great Earthquake in 1707, which collapsed Otani Peak. It is believed that the waterfall continued to flow with red-tinted water at the time of the collapse, hence the name "Akamizutaki." When heading north on Prefectural Road 29, you will know you are getting close when you see a large sign and parking spaces along the road. The charm of the waterfall, combined with the autumn foliage of the surrounding trees, creates a fusion of strength and gentleness.
