Iiyama Castle was built as a castle by Uesugi Kenshin during the Sengoku period. Currently, the ruins are designated as a prefectural historic site, and from mid-April to late April, cherry blossoms of Somei Yoshino, Ooyamazakura, and Shidarezakura bloom throughout the castle ruins, including the Sannomaru, Ninomaru, and Honmaru. During the cherry blossom festival, there will be stalls and a cherry blossom viewing plaza, and lanterns will also be lit. The contrast between the restored gate, stone walls, and cherry blossoms is magnificent. The lantern lighting will take place from April 8 (Tue).
