Pray to the Yakushi deity for the clearing of the misfortunes of the thirteenth year, as the child’s body and mind approach adulthood. The thirteenth year is said to signify the 'revolving of the zodiac from the year of birth' and is regarded as the first year of misfortune. At the age of thirteen, moving from elementary to middle school, through a sensitive puberty, it is an important turning point in life.
