46th Mount Fuji Fire Festival

The largest fire festival in Japan
The fire festival of Fujinomiya held on the first Saturday of August every year. Eight portable shrines lit with the sacred fire taken from the top of Mount Fuji, at the Okumiya of Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha, parade through the city wishing for world peace. In the climax, the portable shrines enter the Kanda River and flow upstream, and in the reserved seats (paid) set along the Kanda River, visitors can enjoy the powerful river ascent in unison with the portable shrines. The festival is also lively with performances of traditional Japanese drums and folk dances including the sacred fire dance.
