Ougami Onsen Great Snake Festival

A special procession of the giant snake mikoshi once every 12 years!!
Ougami Onsen has a legend of the hot spring's creation stemming from the battle between the giant snake transformed from the deity of Mount Akagi and the great centipede transformed from the deity of Nikkō's Mount Nikkō. The highlight of the "Ougami Onsen Great Snake Festival" is the procession of the "great snake mikoshi" modeled after the deity of Mount Akagi, carried by the spirited young men of the village as they parade through Ougami Onsen Town. Once every 12 years in the year of the snake, a special procession of the gigantic snake mikoshi, measuring 108.22m in length, will be conducted. At that time, it was recognized by Guinness World Records as the "longest festival snake".
