Gounoura Gion Yamakasa

The Summer Grand Festival of Ikikishi Proud of Its History
The largest summer festival in Ikikishi, known locally as "Gion-san". It began with the dedication of the yamakasa (float) to Yasaka Shrine for the prayer to ward off epidemics, and has a history of over 270 years. Over time, it has come to embody various wishes such as abundant harvests, prosperous business, mass prayers, and family safety. Participants parade through Gounoura Town, chanting the lively cries of "Osse, Osse". A highlight is the tough climb up the stone steps.
