Every year in June, the Ajisai Festival is held amidst 50,000 hydrangeas planted in Katahara Onsen Ajisai no Sato. There are about 100,000 visitors each year, and temporary buses also operate. The venue is illuminated at night, allowing visitors to enjoy a different ambiance than during the day, and if you're lucky, you might even see the Genji fireflies that inhabit the area. Various events such as exhibitions and photo contests are also held during the period.
