Special Exhibition: 'Japanese Paintings of Kyoto - Collection of the Kyoto City University of Arts Art Archive'

The Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting, the precursor of the Kyoto City University of Arts, opened in 1880 (Meiji 13) as Japan's first public art school. Established by modern Kyoto painters, the school has made transformations, with notable figures such as Kōno Bumei, Kikuchi Hōbun, and Takeuchi Seihō teaching, while many painters including Tsuchida Bakusen, Murakami Kakyō, and Ono Takekiyo studied here. This exhibition introduces the modern development of Kyoto's Japanese painting through uniquely radiant works.
