Oshika Sakura

Famous cherry blossom of Inawashiro Town
Famous cherry blossom of Aizu. According to shrine records, it is said to have been transplanted from Kyoto by an envoy of Emperor Murakami during the Tenryaku era (947-957) when visiting Iwai Shrine. The leaves and flowers bloom simultaneously, and the flowers are a deeper color than Somei Yoshino. It is said to have been named 'Oshika Sakura' because the color of the flowers changes gradually from white to the color of a deer’s fur.
