Yogen-ji Shusse Daikokuten Festival

Annual unveiling of the Daikokuten image
The Yogen-ji Temple, enshrining Daikokuten of the Nichiren sect, was established in the first year of Tenreki (947) by the monk Enzen Shonin, who had vowed to recite 60,000 copies of the Lotus Sutra. It is said that after he passed away, seeing the continued prayers being recited by his remains, the monk Iei Shonin built a Lotus platform to offer prayers. Later, the great monk Daikaku Daishonin constructed the Kakase Honmon-ji Temple in this area, which was later moved and renamed Kakaseyama Honmon-ji. In the first year of Shōtoku, land from the residence of the clan's founder, Yoritsune, was donated, and the temple was renamed Nagayama Yogen-ji. The Daikokuten's public unveiling currently takes place every year on the first Sunday in April.
