Nariai-ji Thousand Day Pilgrimage

Receive the benefits of a thousand days from the Kannon deity.
The event held annually at Nariai-ji, the 28th temple of the Western Pilgrimage. It is said that attending on this day grants the visitor the benefits equivalent to a thousand days from the Kannon deity, attracting many worshippers. The day begins with a grand ceremony for the hungry spirits, followed by a fire ritual where wishes are written on wooden tablets and prayers are made, as well as fire-walking practices performed by ascetics. Visitors can also participate in the fire-walking.

About 20 minutes via National Routes 176 and 178 from the Yosa Amanohashidate IC on the Kyoto Jukan Expressway.
About 25 minutes by taxi from 'Amanohashidate' station, or take the Amanohashidate sightseeing boat from Ichinomiya Pier to Kasamatsu Park, then use the Nariai mountain bus to reach Nariai-ji.
