[Sakura Bloom] Suzakujinja's Godai Cherry Blossom

[Sakura Bloom] Suzakujinja's Godai Cherry Blossom

The Edohigan Cherry Blossom treasured and preserved by locals.

Suzakujinja

Late Apr~Early May

The Edohigan Cherry Blossom estimated to be 1200 years old blooms on the grounds of Suzakujinja. It is a giant tree with a root circumference of about 9m and a trunk circumference of 11m, designated as a national natural monument. It is said that long ago, when Susanoo no Mikoto visited this place, he inserted a sakura stick he had poked into the waterside, from which a sapling sprouted and took root. It is also said to be the model for the Noh play 'Suzaku.' The way its branches spread is truly magnificent.
