The Museum of Art and Design at Kyoto Institute of Technology has newly collected about 670 sword fittings including tsuba and about 180 hair ornaments. This exhibition will showcase some of the sword fittings and hair ornaments while exploring the potential of tsuba as a design educational material. Tsuba are designed in various shapes and meet the appropriate size and weight requirements for combat. Through the shapes and designs of tsuba and hair ornaments, we learn the passion for beauty in adornments that has been nurtured in Japan.
