Ubakamijingu Grand Festival

A festival said to boast the oldest tradition in Hokkaido
Luxurious 13 carts (Hiki-yama) adorned with warrior dolls, Noh dolls, Bunraku dolls, and Kabuki dolls, including the Jingu Mountain created during the Hōreki era (1751-1764), parade through the town late into the night, fluttering streamers and brocade banners, accompanied by a smooth Gion Bayashi melody. This grand summer festival is held to express gratitude for the bountiful catch of herring. Even today, it is cherished by many as the oldest festival in Ezo. An intangible folk cultural property of Hokkaido.
